My functional cast porcelain work is inspired by the spiral. The original models were created from thrown cylinders cut on an angle and rejoined. New designs have been developed by cutting sections from earlier pieces and reassembling them into new forms. Using this approach, the shell bowl morphed into a butter dish and parts of the spiral vase transformed into a sake set.
The bowls, which are my signature cast porcelain design, create a spiral when they are stacked combining the functional with the sculptural. For a nontraditional table setting, to complement the bowls, I’ve added trays and cups to my line. Suitable for everyday use, these pieces are dishwasher and microwave safe but not ovenproof.
My unique mottled glazes add another dimension to this body of work. By sponging a gloss glaze over a matte base complex colors with unusual depth are produced. The varied palette of these glazes reflects the changing seasons and continues to evolve as new colors are added.
