In the early 90’s, inspired by a performance of the percussionist Glen Velez in which he used some rain sticks, I embarked on a five year journey to capture that hauntingly meditative sound in porcelain.  My research involved learning about World Music, studying musical instrument collections and creating new forms but the real turning point came when a trio of musicians (Jason Finkelman, Steve Gorn, and Thomas Workman) brought the instruments to life in a performance creating a unique ceremony that transcended my original vision.
